Tradeout vs $$$

Ever have a client offer you a tradeout for a commercial or video? I'm curious how you handled it. I've got a auto customization guy trying to get me to bite on a deal on getting my truck custom detailed and more and has told me he usually charges $250. I told him I'd knock that off the final rate but couldn't afford to trade him even for my service. This is NOT something I shell out that much for usually so it's not like it's a super deal for me. If this has happened to you in the past how did you roll with it?

I've had it, and I'll accept if they have something I want and value. I wouldn't consider it a $250 value, since then you wouldn't be getting a deal, but I'd cut something off if I were interested in custom detail. Which I wouldn't be.

I got a termite guy treating my house to give me a $100 discount on the job, based on me allowing him $100 toward a web video. He never got around to getting the video done.
