track matte

Ive tried making a track matte in edius and up until now I have failed .
Ive followed the tutorial from grass valley ....visual effects ....composting.
It says use the canopus HQ codec and quck titler but when I select the 2 clips in the bin window and context click I dont get the convert to alpha matte option, it remains greyed out. Does anyone know what im doing wrong ....any help appreciated

First question: What are you trying to accomplish?

Also, you won't get the Convert|Alphamatte option if the selected clips are different framerates or resolutions. Since titles are created in the project resolution, make sure the project resolution matches the clip's resolution, at least when you create the title and keyed/filled clip.

Thanks for replying BHIGA
All I was trying to do was mimic the track matte operation of which ive used before in prem pro 1.5 and now 2
But these days Im doing more editing in edius than I do in prem.
So I was working along my timeline nicely when I thought I would introduce a piece of video playing through the text of a title. so tried following the grass veley tutorial to see how it was done in Edius broadcast version 4,which is when I got stuck with not being able to convert my clips in the bin via the convert alpha matte command.

Hmm... Try this as a starter.
Create a new EDIUS project.
Create a title.
Create a color bar clip.
Click the title in the bin.
Hold down Control, then click the color bar clip in the bin.
Release Control, and right-click either the title or color bar clip.
Select Convert|Alphamatte

That should work. If it doesn't, something's wrong.

Thanks BHIGA I think we are getting somewhere now .
I still think I havent sorted all the problem notably there seems to be something going on with quick time mov files.Ill try and spend more time on this and crack it with any file in the project bin combined with a quick title should right click and be able to create a canopus hq file once i have chosen convert file....alpha matte.
I think some of my problem was with converting any file that I wanted to use
into a hq file before i converted it which was a bit previous to what should be done
Hope you followed this ok and maybe give me your thoughts if any file in the bin is able to be converted within your system.
Thanks again and let me know any more.

The requirements seems to be that the clips must be same resolution/framerate.

Convert | File should convert any clip in the bin to HQ. Then the converted HQ file should be able to alphamatte properly.
