Tough spun glass isn't as uniform as a frost diffuser. That said, you aren't likely to see or be able to meter the difference [in almost every instance].
We use 1/4 and 1/2 spun in front of 2k fresnels with and without their lenses for hot keys on talent. Spun lasts a long, long time clipped to the leading edge of a barn-door.
