James Longly used the DVX100a in the Middle East for a few months straight. I had the pleasure of editing an interview with him, and he spoke about gaf-taping the DV tape door shut to seal it from sand and dust. He also talked about a time where his microphone windscreen caught on fire because it was so hot inside a brick factory. The camera kept rolling. No joke, apparently!
Hey, I just started working in Oregon. Any place you recommend checking out?
I shot a short in Borrego Springs once (the desert) on my DVX and it survived pretty well. One thing I did though was wrap the main body of it with plastic wrap to protest it from dust and sand. Worked well, and I could still push the buttons.
