Hi, I really need some help with getting subclips to work after importing a batch list. I’ve read the manual and searched everywhere, but can’t find any help. So bear with me in this detailed post, thanks…
I had 5 Beta SP tapes professionally digitized to a drive, which resulted in 5 individual movies, with each .mov file representing one Beta tape. Each tape transfer was captured with a reel name corresponding to the files on the drive since they were full tape captures.

Now my client has the same footage (on dvd with burned in timecode), so he is making his own rough-cut edit list. He sent me back a somewhat standard file, with column headings that I can easily rename to fit the FCP batch list standards. From this I plan to create subclips of all the footage, which looks like this (manually created subclips for illustrative purposes):

I then exported this as a batch list, with the blue area representing the timecode that I have entered manually in the spreadsheet:

I then copy and pasted all the data to textedit to create a .txt file for re-import to FCP:

Here’s the problem: when I import my batch list I lose a number of things: bins have been discarded and just lumped into a new default bin, all the subclips have just become regular clips, and thus any linkages from my subclips to the original files have disappeared. I’m able to “reconnect media” for the original 5 movies; however, I can’t reconnect the subclips:

I then try to do a Batch Capture, but it won’t let me since I don’t have a controllable VTR hooked up. I’d use my DVX100a normally (I know I shouldn’t), but I’m dealing with original Beta tapes, which I don’t have access too, nor do I have a VTR for it.

So how can I import a Batch List that retains its subclip info, etc. I have tried to figure out a way to designate one of my original 5 movie files as a reel for recapturing a subclip, but I haven’t figured out a way. Is it even possible to designate a file on your hard disk as a “reel”? This might help me out a lot.
Or am I approaching this process in a bad way? Should I be using a different work flow? Is there an alternative to subclips when importing a batch list? Any information is greatly appreciated, as I am stuck until I can figure out this situation.
