totally lame question - exporting frame grabs

Hi guys,

every time I export a still from a widescreen 720p project in FCP it comes out squashed and in the wrong aspect.

how do I export a still in the correct aspect?

sounds lke you have to take a look at the options tab when you do a export. There should be some sizing options that can be adjusted or selected for different formats. I assume your using quicktime conversion? Plus try different formats: jpeg, tiff, png. Some formats may have different allowable options.

Im doing Quicktime conversion yes, no aspect options sadly...but I'll have a look at some other formats cheers. does anyone else know a failsafe way to make the damn thing work?

yeah i guess there really isn't any options for that. i took a look after I made that post. Well it could depend on what you are using the freeze frame for. If you were just going to bring it back into FCP you could just lay it on the timeline, double click and adjust the apect setting in the distort pulldown in the motion tab. then just paste attributes to any others in the timeline.

It could be what you are opening the freeze frame in that could be doing the squashing also. try opening into different apps.

I don't know just brain storming

thanks I appreciate it,
I'm opening it in Photoshop, pretty much everything I open it in, it seems to look the same. Its a pain because it seems to fall apart when i skew it into the right aspect....

Just do a screen grab press Cmd-Shift-4 and highlight the viewer or canvas move cursor around to get best shape and the file should be saved on your desktop.

Yes I guess it would be if the picture wasn't taken on a recent snowboarding excursion to Bulgaria. You ever been down to the Bourne then, full of old people AKA gods waiting lounge.:)
