Total emergency!!!!

I'm freaking out right now! I just finished filmming a short film today with the NTG-2...but thats not the problem. I just now went to go put it in my editing software and I decided to try to turn the volume on the camera down by pressing the -AUDIO MON/VAR + button. But all that did was completely turn ALL of my audio off when I review it ON camera and when I go to listen to it while it is uploading. I unplugged, turned off the camera and tried to record but absolutly NO sound is being recorded...the audio meters wont work AT ALL and I cant get the sound to come through on my computer because of this ridiculously stupid mistake....PLEASEEEEEE help!!!!! Crisis!!

DVX100b is the camera. Also, I forgot to add, This also occured when I used my uploading cable on a different computer and it worked fine for that half second until I hit that stupid button =(...IDK if that has anything to do with it or not...

Does the footage look like it is playing at a different speed? The volume buttons also controls the variable speed playback which disables sound. According to the manual you need to hit the play button to return to normal play mode. Try the remote play button as well as the operation lever. If you are using the capture window controls to play then that might explain why you are stuck. Try the play buttons either on the camera or remote.

I think but I also hit stop as it was playing back in uploading and then hit the play button again but it still didnt work. It doesnt even record audio now either! I'll try what you said though.

You would think that switching to camera from VCR would reset it though. No idea why you can't capture new audio. Did you switch to your onboard mics to see if they get anything?

OK this is super weird. I by some way got the audio back on the things that I have already recorded but my camera still will not RECORD any audio currently. It only works now on the things that I have already shot....

Cole, BTW I just wanted to state in this moment of chaos that we are both from Maryland! Go us! Anyhow, yeah it wont record new audio..I have the camera set up to where it will record with both the NTG shotgun and the camera mic as back up so it should still pick up SOMETHING but now its picking up absolutly NOTHING at all.

Are you capturing the new footage that is missing sound or is this just in playback? Did you bump the volume all the way down by mistake? Do you have the gain dials turned up enough? Is the source still the NTG-2, and if so are you using phantom or battery? Try the onboard mics. If they work it is a power issue on the Rode. Simple questions but its a place to start? Did the play button get your audio back up on the old footage?

okay new issue sort of. It seems like a certain piece of my footage does not have sound and I know that it was recording sound for these scenes at the time (the NTG). But the camera on board still wont record new audio. I'm still fooling with the camera a bit but for now I'm trying to save this footage that I have now before it dies again. I'll get back to you shortly. In the mean time, thank you for the help!!

hate to change the topic... where in md are you guys from? im also a maryland.

and as for your problem.. i have no idea. lol I've only used a dvx a few times

false alarm guys, I finally got the camera to work...i COULD have had it set it to external mic only...thats why...wow now I feel dumb. Thanks everyone for the help though!!! =DD But why the issue is still here...what exactly does the -AUDIO MON/VAR + button do? ...I set it all the way to positive...

w3Productions, B-More.

what exactly does the -AUDIO MON/VAR + button do? I set it all the way to positive.

The -AUDIO MON/VAR + button adjusts the listen level on the headphones. This has nothing to do with the gain of the mic, only how loud you hear them while you are monitoring your audio. So, leaving it all the way up is fine, though if you find that the volume in your headphones is to loud you can turn it down.
