Top Prestigious Film Festivals? Top Latino Film Festivals?

Which film festivals are at the top of the list. How does a director determine how to prioritize?

Say your feature screens there and wins an award, where are you more likely to get distribution right after or which are considered more "prestigious" than the others? Can we include Latino film festivals in the list as well? Say NY or LA Latino Film festivals vs Orlando Latino Film Fest, etc.

I am trying to prioritize as to where to send my film to first, 2nd, etc.

I don't want to get into a local film festival when I have a shot at Cannes, Tribeca, etc, first, knowing that Cannes or Sundance won't accept films if they have been screened elsewhere. I am trying to figure out the order in which I will be submitting my film.

Any info, links, opinions would be great on the matter, thank you.

only submit to small festivals to satisfy your own ego. they are fun but will not move you or your film closer to distribution. even the top festivals don't guarantee that.

also, each festival is looking for different things. the films that screen at Cannes are not the same ones that screen at Sundance. and a big up and comer like SXSW is known for supporting other, more "art house", filmmaking. your best bet is to read chris gore's book and start attending these fests to learn what they are screening.

btw, fests are not the gateway to distribution. films rarely get picked up because they screened at sundance. those deals are made beforehand and announced at sundance.

Thanks

Thanks

Thanks guys, yeah I was sort of thinking the same, thanks for that book recommendation I just ordered it for $8 off amazon, and I signed up for withoutabox last week its a great site. Hopefully I can figure out a plan soon enough without missing some approaching deadlines.

not all, but most of the top fests have passed. but they open submissions in the latter half of the year.
