Do any of y'all watch Top Gear the British automotive show? I have recently become addicted to this show. I hear it airs on Discovery Channel here in the US however those are edited versions. So, I have aquire the UK version by "other" means.

I really dig the cinematography of some the road tests they do. Lovely composition, angles, and color saturation. Sometime it's like watching a 10 minute car commercial. I've never seen a US automotive show shot like that. Are there any that are shot like that?

Also, that Clarkson guy is humorous.

I can tell you that the footage is actually shot on super16mm and DigiBeta split 30/70. I've done some B camera work on the show and they grade it really well in post and Mr Clarkson is a true petrol head.

S16...really?

The show rocks! Clarkson is a unique talent, one of my favourites. It has quite a cult following in the UK!

I am not a big Richard Hammond fan though. A small man trying to be like Clarkson. He is just there for female appeal. I hope they get that hot german girl in to present next season - she is the only person who can really put clarkson in his place.

i actually wodered about the photography of the car testing shots too. but besides the 16mm, there's something they add digitally which i can't quite focus what's about. not just a plain color correction. some weird gamma or so.. some whites become washed out.. it's weird. i like it though. would like to be able to replicate it.

also dont you agree that the lighting in the studio sucks? and also how they position people and presenters?

i liked the show, until they were classifying some older cars and they put mine (mazda mx5) into the cheesy / untrendy group... grrr

They vignette a lot of the footage and play with gradients too... that may be it.
