Top 10 Films of 2002...

No no no. This film was killer. Who wasn't scared when Mel was in the Corn Field ? Or when they chased the 'Brother's' around the house ?

Me, I wasn't scared. It looked like two actors in a silly movie running around their house.

What about when they show the alien for the first time on the CNN at he little Mexican Birthday Party ?

I laughed outloud. I really did. Then I felt cheated. I couldn't believe Shyamalan was serious with this.[/QUOTE]

Mel and Phoenix as brothers ? What does this even mean ?

It means horrible casting, totally unbelievable. Just another blunder among blunders.

Coming from the Solaris fan I can barely comment.

Come on, are you all really serious about Solaris? That's bizarre. Well Rich has Solaris at number 4 of the best films of 2002. He can see why Solaris works. I don't know why others can't. And I must give props again to Rich -- damn talented individual. :)

I respectfully disagree Rich

I read 'We Were Soldier's Once...and Young' and alot of that books character makes it onto the screen. It is so easy to screw a true event up and this film serves it well.

Alot of that cheeze and corn is in the material. I thought Mel did an outstanding job as Hal Moore (They look and sound alike from interviews)

Note * The photo montage did not work for me as well.

I admit, the films plays off of patriotism and harkens back to the older films (Audi Murphy my man!) with it's glorius appraoch but the book really emphasizes the patriotism felt then and now after the war.

Pearl Harbor was a joke and disservice to the event itself (I like the film still... I just take it for what it is though) but agree, the two films just do not compare.

I agree. Interesting view points from each of us !

Pen Cap ?

-

The knife under the door scene ? No ?

Sigh

Each to his own (It's what makes our discussions worthwhile). I personally find most of Soderberg's work unbearable.

-

The $14,000,000 domestic take speaks volumes for the film in my world.

-

Signs worked for me. Looking very forward to M Knights next feature.

Wow, just took a peek at his body of work and I see what you mean.
Ocean's Eleven is about it for me. Maybe...Traffic but I'm not firm on that one.

Agreed

Traffic was one of the most over-hyped pieces of tripe in a long, long while.

I mean Traffic...What's the deal with that?!

Soderbergh's Ocean's 11 was entertaining (though Ocean's 12 was unwatchable.) like I've said before...I just get blazing mad

The Rat Pack version was FAR superior to the Pitt/Clooney version IMO. I loved the original Ocean's 11. Great film.

Well if I had to pick a suspenseful moment from Signs, I'd go with the knife scene. :)

Yeah, I really hated Traffic. Anyone seen Soderbergh's King of the Hill? I think it came out in 1992 or 1993? I've never seen it, not on DVD, but heard it was really good.

Traffic was an average movie... Soderbergh just took Lars Von Trier's style and did a "Short-Cuts" tipe of movie. The Michael Douglas daughter storyline was too moralistic and over the top. If you want Traffic done in a good way, see City of God. Now there's a good movie about "traffic".

I saw King of the Hill. Like the bulk of Soderbergh's work, I was under-impressed. There were some good performances (namely Adrien Brody early on in his career), but I recall the film trying too hard to be something it wasn't.

I think Soderbergh had a good...no a great lawyer present when he struck the deal to sell his soul in exchange for an extended directing lifespan.
