I've never seen What Lies Beneath. Is it really that good?
The most sacred of terms, "Hitchcockian" is thrown around waaaay too much. However, What Lies Beneath is one of the few cases where it is appropriate to invoke the master's name when describing the film's vibe.

What an incredible year for Zemeckis...between this and Cast Away. He filmed the first act of Cast Away, then shut down production so that Hanks could do his anti-De Niro thing (losing, instead of gaining lots-o-poundage.) After finishing both production and post-production on WLB, he went back to finish Cast Away. Most amazing of all...he used predominantly the same crew throughout both shebangs!

But yes, to answer your question...it is that good.

Wow. I liked What Lies Beneath but Hitchcockian? I'm not saying it isn't, but I am saying that is high praise. I think I'll have to pull this off the rack and try again. I do believe it might be Robert Zemeckis most fully realized movie, so in that respect perhaps you're right.

I just picked up What Lies Beneath for 6 bucks on DVD. I'm gonna watch it tonight.
Well...
Whaddya hear? Whaddya say?

Did you agree that it was one of the year's best offerings?

Also WHERE THE HELL DID YOU SNAG IT FOR 6 BUCKS?! Walmart? Damn, I always check the $5.50 rack, but never saw it there (of course the titles change quite rapidly.)
A few that I have snagged there for that price though:
-Superman
-The Shining
-Key Largo
-Poltergeist
-Gremlins
-Interview With the Vampire
-The Majestic

-61*
-and-
-Several SNL "Best of..." editions (Eddie Murphy, Tom Hanks, Chris Farley, etc)

Edit:
Keep those lists coming!
