Sold my Marshall. Sold a few lights. Selling a Manfrotto. Should have my Nebtek early next week. It's been a nail biting wait. Full review up by end of next week. What sold me were a few things. Went to Abel and took one for a test ride. Here is what I thought:
Bright as all hell. Good for outdoor work.
Excellent pic/colors and contrast
Pass through on both SDI and Component
Good Peaking Function
Lighter than the LTH 80
Will take my stock of HVX batts keeping it lighter than Vmoun or IDX option.
What kept me on the fence:
No waveform
No pixel for pixel mapping
So I figured, I'll have a HPX or EX soon enough to solve the waveform issue. Indoors I have my trusty 1700. I found the images sharpness and peaking good enough for focus and rarely would I go above 1 on the peaking.
What threw me over the fence:
Customer service with Nebtek has been phenomenal over the past two years. Don't know how Rob does it. He actually picks up the phone and sticks to his word. I've had experience with them with Marshall's and other accessories and they've been nothing short of great.
Also the brightness was a big issue for me. At close to 600 NIT this little bad boy performs outside and that's when I tend to use on board monitors the most. It was brighter than the Panny 80 and its footprint and weight smaller. I stayed away from the 900 as I feel it's overkill for run and gun weighing close to 8lbs not including batts. Just a bit too much torque for my liking. Whenever I use it, I tend to just have the director hold it like a newborn (they make great monitor mounts).
So weight was a biggie for me. Should be able to hang from my armbones off any camera without too much extra strain.
Then the last item was I realized I got a boatload of Panny batteries. No one's gonna buy them as they're beat up. But they work.
So there you have it.
