Hi guys just got back from the fcp 101 certificate exam today I passed scored 90% so am happy with that.

For those who are planning to do this test I highly recommend it as it does give you a sense of achievement if nothing else.

Tips for the exam? Pretty hard to say considering what has been said already, when people say get the book by Weynand FCP6 and learn it love it live it, I now know what they mean... Jeez they weren't kidding!!!!

So here are some tips for people planing to take the exam, sorry if most is repost:

Understand that the exam is 70 questions some multiple choice and some are to identify a certain aspect on the interface, you have an hour and half to do it in. Pass mark is 80% so that means you can make up to 14 mistakes to pass. Depending on the internet settings at the place you take the exam, the next question can load up fast or slow. I swear I waited like 40 seconds till the next question fully loaded, and yet time was still ticking away.

Learn all the revise questions in the book and understand what they mean, dont simply learn the answers of by heart as you will fail. Understand why it is that.

Dont worry about learning all the shortcut keys, you only have to know the basics and regular used ones.

Learn information that seems not so important, i.e one question that came up was to do with sampling rates of a cd. Surprises me how much of the book you have to know. You really have to know the nitty gritty of stuff as any question from the book could come up.

Know exactly how each edit type works and be able to distinguish one from another if an example of an edit is given.

Learn what all the icons in the interface do and memorise what they look like.

Know what options come under which menu.

Be able to apply what you know in a practical manner and be able to distinguish it immediately.

Some parts of the test was easy, some parts were thought provoking and some were just way out there, mainly due to the way they word the questions. But if you studied the book, understand everything in the book and how everything works, and can locate everything, you will do just fine.

If you think just by knowing the review questions youll sail through... then think again, I have a new level of respect for people with this qualification, it can be pretty tough and its something Im glad I put myself through. :)

Now... Level 2  maybe not yet

Great job!

I am thinking i might go for my level 2 certification after the new year. It would seem the lesson reviews touch on some more advanced techniques for sure, and also the application of concepts, not just the software (for example, instead of how do you color match a scene, why would you color match a scene) I've been working out of the level 2 book for some time and may be ready.

Thanks guys will get the level 2 book now, the exam cost me £117.50 not sure what that is in dollars but in U.K we get ripped off for everything :(
