Too Saturated, please help!

Hi Everyone. I did something bad: I put the chroma at +2 on my hvx200, using the cine-like D setting.
Result: The red background in the picture is overly saturated. Could someone tell me how to salvage the footage? I would like to de-saturate the red, without washing out the skin tones too much.

any option other than keying?

Thanks.

What are you editing on? Might be several solutions available to you. On Vegas, I'd do a color curves correction, and just bring down the top of the red a bit. Should avoid most of the mid-tone skin, and knock some of that background down.

BTW, out of curiosity, what is that registering on the vectorscope?

Skin tone clump il a little saturated, but the clump pointing towards red is Wayyyy above the maximum line. I have to put saturation at 65 (100 means untouched) to have it under the safe line.

I use premiere pro.

On FCP you can do a 'pleasentville' effect. Color Corrector 3-way to matte out the red BG and desaturate it. If skin tones are effected too much by the desaturation, you may have to garbage matte the person.

Skin tone = red. Red background = red.
De-saturating one without affecting the other would be unnatural.

i would try keylight out, key the red and use clip roll to isolate, then under that layer desautrate the red to the ideal level

Could you do a mask of the young lady? That would allow you to work the colors of the background separately from the subject. Time and labor intensive, but it may do the trick.

dvxuser apparently limits file sizes pretty strictly. I tried to attach something earlier tonight, and found that max width on attachments was about 620 pixels. Unless it's a BMP where you can do 1080 wide, but the file has to be like 19k or less. :(
