too much grain?

Hi,

I ve just got my brevis pre-flip module and it seems that there is too much noise.

here is the link: http://filmseti.com/footage/v2.mov

divx version (2.39 MB): http://www.filmseti.com/footage/v2.divx

I have got XH-A1
Preset set to VIVIDRGB
Noise: -3db

1000watt light is spotted to up...

This is apple intermediate codec. I couldn't manage to encode it to other codecs for PC. I believe this only works in MAC. Can someone tell me what is wrong with this?

Thanks

I'm not seeing any objectionable grain. Grain, in general, is inherent in 35mm adapters to varying degrees. The sample you have posted seems fine to me.

By the way, you need to change the actual link for you divx version, both go to the Quicktime version.

disjecta,

thanks i have fixed the link. But the full version i see lots of grains and corners are black. Are you saying this is normal?

One more thing. I am using FCP and i can watch the files you have sent in .mov format but i can not watch mines in my PC as i use apple intermediate codec. Which codec do you use to render?

Yes, I am seeing some vignetting around the edges... I think you should ask someone over at the Brevis site...Dennis is very responsive.

If you are talking about the quicktimes I have on my site, I think I was using a Sorenson codec. The HD stuff I post is a Windows Media File.

You can check out the properties of my files to get the compression info.

Hmm... Looks pretty 'normal' to me as well. That's pretty much how 35mm adapters affect the picture.

Is your lens wide open in that shot? You might also zoom in slightly more to reduce the amount of vignetting to your tastes.

Well it is 50mm f/1.8. and i am at limits. I don't know how to display lines in my A1 LCD that's why i arrenged it referenced to LCD's edges.

disjecta how did you watch the .mov file i have sent in PC? Do you have that codec installed in your PC?

Well that version is normal too because when i convert it there is no problem. But in full version there is problem. They are not same files btw.

Ates, make sure you check the framing guide over in the Cinevate owner's forum section, and our image tuning guide, in the same place :-) The XH-A1 is a noisy camera in low light, with some relief offered using NR1 and NR2 settings on the camera. It's best to play with these a bit with the cam tethered to an HD monitor to evaluate their effect on the image.

The autumn footage piece was shot on the XH-A1, with CF1L and -3db, but no noise reduction enabled. You'll see noise in the low light stuff at dusk, but in good light, it's quite clean.

Dennis yes i have tested it with better lightning. And it is just awesome. The strange thing is it seems grainy in my iMac and PC but in my HD tv it is just awesome :)

Dennis, I am looking forward for the flip module. Thank you very much again..

By the way I also want to thank to disjecta for VIVIDRGB.. Colors are awesome :)

Unfortunately, it will definitely look grainy on your LCd screens. If you want to make yourself happy with these cameras, watch them on TVs or Pro monitors.

Well yes Kholi you are right but when I convert it to divx it is awesome :)
Real film look. I will post some screenshots
