I've never played the games but I loved the movies from the 2000's. When I heard the character was getting a reboot and origin story, I was pretty excited but now that the trailer is out, I'm a bit let down. Nothing about the trailer gets me excited and I have hunch the movie won't do well. I might be biased though, the basic storyline is almost the same as one I've been working on. But mine features parkour ;)

IMO, the character isn't a global phenomenon (like a Superman/Batman/Spiderman) so these movies always have a harder time succeeding.

I like Lara Croft's adventures and how she's always looking for something while solving puzzles and avoiding harm, but I would have loved to see a reboot trilogy with the introduction of a main antagonist/villain where Lara doesn't find what she's looking for until the final film.

I know that costs money, ha (and may not be worth it), but I'm surprised they even created this movie. I wonder how popular 'Tomb Raider' is overseas.

P.S. Loved the games from the 90s and the images here look amazing (Arri Alexa XT Plus).

I agree, I think an arc like that could be cool and help make her more iconic as a movie character.

The actress they cast looks like a little girl. I would have much preferred Lauren Cohan.

The Angelina Jolie films were clearly going for an over-the-top version of the character. More Roger Moore era James Bond than Indiana Jones. She was the supermodel superhero. To me there was no emotional attachment because there was never anything at stake. It was just so much eye candy. I like that Alicia Vikander looks more like a regular person in great athletic shape. Sure she's lovely, but she doesn't appear superhuman. I think it's far more interesting. She's also an excellent actress who is almost always interesting to watch, which makes the film of greater interest to me.

Jolie was 25 for the first one. Vikander just turned 29 a week ago.

Cohan's 35 right now...probably could still pull it off though.
