To those with kino flo lamps

I just purchased some kino flo bulbs - the tru match 5600k ones from b&h, these ones here http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/258267-REG/Kino_Flo_55C_K55_True_Match_Compact_Lamp.html

Now i don't know if it is just kino flo because these are my first flo's from this company but when i move the lamp around i hear the sound of little BB's moving around in them. i could also see the BB's when i make them roll to the end with out the connector. the 3200k ones i have from coollights don't do this. so just wondering if you guys have experienced the same thing or if i should get a hold of B&H. btw the box they shipped in looked like it was attacked by a grizzly.

Thanks

attacked by a grizzly lmao...sorry to hear about it...it sucks. I used to work at UPS unloading the packages at a hub, and let me tell you, they used to punt the boxes around doing field goals with them. Boxes were regularly and frequently smashed, slammed, splayed, splunked, and strewn about with no care. Managers promoted and encouraged you to work faster by dumping boxes stacked 12 feet high onto conveyer belts by just crashing the wall of packages down instead of carefully taking them down, etc so it's no surprise to me such things occur.

I own three dozen Kino Flo tubes and none of them sound like that.

Thanks for the help guys, i'm going to call up B&H for a return. I hope the next shipment doesnt come in like this. The box was literally crushed on one side and was ripped open. The problem is every freaking time i order some thing it always comes in in that shape. must be the guys working at UPS/FedEx around here i guess.

I guess the UPS and Fed Ex depots here in AZ are better. I have had only one damaged shipment in many years. Maybe I am just lucky.

I own several Kino Diva lights which use those same bulbs. They all make the same sound you describe like BB's rolling around inside. The bulbs work fine and the sound is normal but I forget what causes that sound. Send an e-mail to Kino tech support for explanation before sending them back.
I don't think the other straight kino flo bulbs make that sound but I'm not positve as I don't have any of them before me.
As long as ups/fedx don't shatter the bulbs, they are probably fine. I've had those bulbs shatter in the Diva case before, especially when flying.

monkeyking, thanks for the info. I did not know that about kino's, usually when you shake a light bulb and here things moving around then it is a good sign that something is wrong. i guess I'll just stick with them and see how long they last.

My tubes have lasted a long time , a couple years and counting. The only tubes that ever went down were the few that physically shattered. I'm going to be flying cross country next week with one of my diva lights. I hope none of the tubes shatter. I'll put extra bubble wrap around the tubes in the fixture itself and hope the padded case protects the other tubes.

have you ever used any of the cases that they sell for the lamps. you should give something like that a try instead of leaving them in the fixture. i always have to take them out because mine will fall out if i close the barn doors due to the design of the fixture. it also says in the manual to take them out when transporting them so i do just to play it safe. when i purchased my coollights they came in a nice case. it's made out of cardboard and Styrofoam like some of the ones you see at B&H and gets the job done for traveling with it locally but I'm looking for a hard case for that extra protection when i load up the truck with equipment and just in case something goes flying around back there they should be safe. I'm looking for something with a good price because i need two of them. one for the 6 kinos and one for the 6 coollights but its hard because just the cardboard ones run like $30-$90.

I work at a rental house every once in a while and a few of their kino bulbs have stuff rattling around inside. Definitely nothing wrong with them though. Still all work fine.

Still, not a bad idea to look into it.

Yes, I have the foam-lined cardboard box for the Kino Diva tubes which fits nicely into the Diva case. I need to transport tubes in the fixture itself as well as in the box. That's what the bubble wrap is for. I will also tape those tubes down so they won't pop out.
