To the Vegas Gurus

I like it. Be forewarned, AE is a more rubust program with regards to effects, but this is all 3D track motion, which CAN be done in Vegas, I guarantee it ... in fact, I've got a job coming up that'll have some pictures, and I may mimic this idea as it looks pretty slick.

What you may not be doing is setting up the child/parent tracks. Have all of your individual tracks set up as childs to one main/top track that has nothing on it ... then on THAT parent track, you'll want to work with "parent motion tracking" which will be a button off to the far left of the track ... sometimes easy to miss. I don't have vegas open in front of me at the moment, but if you need further explaination, let me know.

Basically, the parent track is the one that will move & spin everything around, with minor movements (it looks like) to adjust to taste the individual tracks you may be bringing into frame at the moment. Hope that makes sense.

BTW, I'm not a Vegas guru, so someone else can probably put this into better words.

Accomplishing this in Vegas is fairly easy, as Envision said. It's all about parenting and parent control and placement. There are several tutorials at http://www.vasst.com/search.aspx?text=parent

One of the Parent Control articles should help you. It's a fairly long, drawn out explanation, hence the link.

I have to disagree, not a guru like spot and others , but I dont think this can be done easy in Vegas,,,, may be ABLE to be done, but aint going to be easy.
As a user of AE and Vegas I can tell ya vegas would not be a part of that project, and it wouldn't be a simple task in AE, but simpler than veags. IMHO

For me, on the other hand, since about the only thing I can do with AE is start it, Vegas is MUCH easier. Really depends on your knowledge of a program/software as to whether it's easier or not.

i understand your point, but I also question you can get the smooth changes of direction in Vegas , some of the pics move very smoothly back , left and right, and then off the screen ,again , not a Vegas Guru, but never been able to make complex moves like that in Vegas without some jerky jerky stuff.
Anyway real nice video!!!

I've seen it jerky when using 24P, but that's more a matter of speed of movement & how it looks in 24P (strobing) ... as long as your system's got enough juice, as 3D is a render pig, it should be glass ... I'll try to remember this thread after I test something similar in a project I'm being hired for (50th Wedding Anniversary).

Ok cool I got it working, but very hard to coordinate. Is there a plugin that you could to make it with AE. Vegas just seems to uncoordinated.

Maybe Spot's team can develop something within the next release of Ultimate S ... I'd wonder if it had it already, but if it did, he would have plugged the product already. :)

...well...before making the Parent Child Tracks combined...maybe its hard cuz the box your working with is too thin...try to make the box a big cube so its easier to move around.

As for the shakiness....add a slight blurr or supersampling to it...but..dont put any video underneath it...keep the pictures on the plain black background...then export with an Alpha channel.
I do this all the time for certain text effects i want..instead of haveing a sharp text just moving across the screen fast..i add the blur or supersampling..render out the text animation with Alpha channel..import to the original project..and jus turn the Alpha on so the black goes away.

also...the rendering for 3D track motion takes foreverrrrrrrrr!..jus thought u should know....unless ur computer is super bizzeast with multicore processing.

Great video (I wish I could stuff like that!). Anyway, I agree with winrock on this one. I have a year or so experience with Vegas, and a few months experience with After Effects. Based upon my experience, I think I would find it much easier to do reproduce this video in AE. In fact, I would say that producing 3D video such as your clip is one of the strong points of AE. But I still love Vegas...

of course it's easier in AE or Combustion or even Motion...but if i recall, the question was "can you do this in Vegas?":undecided

If I were "mrtechnician" and wanted to do the 3D effect on his example clip, I would find it useful to get opinions on the relative difficulty in getting it done in Vegas vs. other programs. That way mrtechnician can decide whether to spend the time learning to do it in Vegas, or spending the time learning to use an alternate program like AE, which might be quicker and easier in the long run. So I don't think it detracts from the discussion to give mrtechnician alternative opinions on how to obtain the desired result.
