To Shoot in a Plane...

This thread was to help enterdcable shoot from a small plane, no?[/quote]

It became a competition when you decided to have the last word on EVERYTHING.

The thread was indeed to help enterdcable and in your first couple of posts, you did just that; "frame with the viewfinder", reduce RPM", "float the camera with your arms", etc. Everything after that was pure ego. I suspect that is why John said, "It's tired. Game over." I'm certainly finding these post have become tiresome.

Re: To Shoot in a Plane...

I have shoot plenty of stills and video in a c172 with no problem, front seat, back seat, 45 degree banks, dives, & climbs. I guess you just have to know what you're doing. 8)

Re: To Shoot in a Plane...

Thanks all. HEHE this really took off while I was away on a shoot- and no it wasn't the plane shoot yet.

But all very good ideas, maybe I'll strap the cinesaddle to my forehead and crouch in my seat. The cessna is good to shoot with, I was told, because it's rather a stable plane and it has high wings so I can shoot underneath them.

While I was talk to the pilot, we came up with the idea of pulling the keys up there so the motor would stop... and I'd have a few moments to get some still shots if I need to. He asked if I knew how to sky dive when I asked if we could go up with the door off. He said possible, but he's worried for my camera unless it's strapped down and I would need to move it to frame past windows and wings and stuff (a reason the cinesaddle might be difficult).

NO, NO, NO, NO! You do NOT "pull the keys", as you put it. You pull the throttle to idle and even then, you need to "clear" the engine (rev it) every so often. Your pilot should know this and if he doesn't, you shouldn't fly with him. If he's forgotten the proceedures for slow flight, refer to The Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM).

Re: To Shoot in a Plane...

Hi guys!

Well I've used a Cinesaddle on both a Cessna and a Helicopter, put the bag on my lap, it does get very crowded, but possible, and it does help a lot. Doesn't eliminate the vibration completely like moving car shots, but certainly helps.

Re: To Shoot in a Plane...

Glad to hear from someone who's used it in this particular configuration. I can imagine that placing it in your lap wouldn't give the full effect, you really need to strap it down to get the full dampening effect.
