To Pad or NOT

hi,

i'm using the 416p 48 going into the 302 mixer and into the hvx200,

wondering if i should use a pad between the 416 and the mixer, is this necessary?
how do i determine this? and if so, wouldn't the phantom power be affected by using a pad?

thank you

you shouldnt need a pad - the 416 is a total tank, in normal spl environments and even in high spl environments.

What Tim said and...

Pads are for recording in super loud situations like airport runways or Slayer concerts. They help keep the hot signal from overdriving the mixer's preamps. You know you need them if no matter how low you turn down the faders, you still get distortion. Unfortunately, you may not be able to hear the distortion in the loud environment you are monitoring in without cranking your headphones pretty loud (you have sony 7506s right?)
