To make it look like film....

If one would like their film to look like it was actually shot on film, what camera would you advise working with that mirrors film most closely? What tips/trips do you suggest in post for making it look like film?

Sorry for the amateur question.

There are always programs like Magic Bullet that can make your footage resemble film. Also make sure that when you choose a camera (if you haven't already) that it has 24p mode and can shoot HD (preferably) unless you're on a really tight budget. If you're just starting then you shouldn't need film-like footage yet, but if you've been shooting for awhile, then save up for an xh-a1 or something with good quality and play around with it.

People can shoot amazing footage with an HD camera, 24p mode, and a shallow DOF adapter.

People have shot amazing footage with a DV camera and a light kit. Before getting obsessed with the gear-headedness of HD and 35mm adapters, play with lighting. Work on creating moods and controlling shadows.

My 35mm adapter went down minutes before a shoot, so I had to use the stock lens. It took that for me to realize how much of a crutch it had become in my workflow. Don't buy into technology before you learn the techniques - it'll make you a much more effective, and free, storyteller.

Lighting, shallow depth of field, and careful color grading should have you well on your way.

And cinegammas.
