To Letus or not to Letus..

Which is the best 35mm adapter, Mini35, the brevis, the SGpro, the letus, the redrock, any others?

Non-Bias opinions would be good, someone who has used more than one of these?
Thanks!

I apologize if a thread is a repeat of another. I looked around and couldn't find one.

It's like asking what's the best camera? Who makes the best car? Who's dad is the coolest? Which stripper is the sexiest? Go through the hundreds of posts here on read up on the pros / cons and you may find which is best for you.

But do weigh the following criterion:

Sharpness
Ease of Set up
Build
Grain
Bokeh
Customer Service
Reliability
Lens mount built
Spinning, oscillating or static ground glass
Light Loss
Etc

You're looking for an easy answer to something that requires a bit of homework. I asked the same question about two years ago. Start studying.

If I could, I'd own several for different rigs as some adaptors meet one particular shoots specs over another. It's like cameras. There are many situations where I would rather have a PD 150 over a Panavision Genesis or a Mini over a Ferarri. But for now I drive a Honda because I bought an Ultimate.

Hehehe.

Study the pros/cons of a Vibrating or Static GG (ground glass) design. Letus Extreme and Brevis are vibrating, SGPro, M2 and Letus Ultimate are spinning. Then decide if you need it flipped or not. Letus is flipped, while the others offer flip add ons.

Best of all, research. Search Vimeo. Lurk these forums - I promise that an hour of lurking is more beneficial than any post you'll receive in this thread.

If you're looking to do a lot of music Videos and that sort of thing I would advise considering a spinning GG. The vibrating adapter can really be a drawback when you're looking wanting the higher shutter speeds. What kind of things do you think you'll be using it for? Outside or inside? Looking to shoot a lot with natural light or planning to have everything well lit?

I had an M2 for a few years and shot a lot of commercials and a feature film with it. I recently got rid of it and bought an SG pro based on my own research which included looking at a lot of clips online.

I think the design of the SG pro is superior to the M2 (ground glass in particular) and I ruled out vibrating GG adapters during my research because I wanted the option of using high shutter speeds.

.

Lots of footage on Vimeo and YouTube of many of these adapters. I also posted a poll several weeks ago to see what adapters people owned. Last I checked, Letus seemed to be the most owned, but there is no way to verify any of those results, but its a snapshot of what other guys are buying.

You just have to ask yourself what is best For YOU.

I own an Extreme. For me, my number one need was low light loss. That made Letus perfect for me. SG pro has world famous bokeh, brevis is super light weight. There are a lot of pros and cons to each adapter.

Evaluate your needs and choose based on that. I am a huge Letus fan, but the SG blade should be out soon. If you are not in a hurry I would wait to see pricing and footage from blade before I bought.

Good Luck
