To Lav or Boom?

I have to do sound for a shoot tomorrow, car commercial. I hate car commercials but I need money. It is a apple style commercial look. This is what the script says. I have 2 lavs but have Rode NTG-3 too. I want to and to use my boom. But video guys asked me if I could lav tomorrrow. What would you guys use?

depends on-
-Framing
-if the client specifically asks for a wire
-reflections in the car
-background noise
-about 100 other things.

You wont be able to tell until you are there and can see with your own eyes on how
its being done. Be prepared for both. Even when you think you're going to be booming..
have the wire out with all your mounting tools ready to go in case after 1 take you have to switch. (or after a rehearsal)

All things being equal and perfect situation, a boom is going to be the better choice
and less "hassle" for talent. (and you)

No this will be like the apple commercials. They will be in our green screen studio. Like the apple vs pc commercials. So no background noise, car and client has not asked for one.

Agree, set up for both but the vid guys might want big wide shots so asked you to lav and maybe your studio sounds very live. Watch car salesmen very closely.

Cheers.

I was just going to go into a 702t so just 2 inputs and 2 actors. So could not lav both and boom. I guess I will run one lav into the camera then boom and lav on the 702T.

only last thing for me would be distance from each other (close enough to swing without missing lines)
You'll be able to tell quickly by the framing if a boom will work or not.

Personally going on the info you're giving me..i would go for
swinging a pole. Especially since you're on a green screen rather than a white sych. Even the wides shouldnt be a problem.

I also agree with Rippie that you should use boom if possible. Maybe lav mics for redundancy if you feel that you are not getting what you need out of the boom.

Are you using just the 702T or will you also have a mixer?
You mentioned that you might run one lav into camera and the boom and lav to 702T.
Will you be able to monitor and/or ride the level of the lav that is going to the camera?
If you are using a mixer, as well as the 702T then maybe do something along putting boom iso to camera and the 2 lavs iso to each channel on the 702T.

if its green screen it doesn't matter if booms in the shot, hell, you can be in the shot booming them as long as the subject doesn't cross between you and camera.

its funny..
about a month ago I was on a job that had some greenscreen.

There were lights on both sides of the subject in frame..
yet they actually complained that my boom was in the top,
so I had to play it an extra 6-8" farther out.

Gotta love how sound gets treated sometimes.
