to hvx201 or to hpx171

hi right at the moment i have a dvx100 and love it cos it does everything i could want for a SD camera and now im looking to move up in the world to make good shorts, music videos, talking head interviews, festival interviews and well just about lots of things in that area

so i like the HVX201 as it does everything under the sun including miniDV etc and i have seen the HPX171 which looks almost the same bar the miniDV

my question is what is the major difference and which one should i choose as there is a big difference in price aswell but i rather get the better one which ever that might be

Pick up a 171: I owned a dvx100 for 4 years and I bought a 201
I've changed it after 2 months

- too heavy
- orrible monitor and focus assist lack
- 60 Hz and 24p lack
- less wider optics

With 171 you can record miniDV on the P2 card.

Pick up a 171, this is my suggestion

i thought the HVX201 was the better camera or am i wrong

im not to worried about SD footage really as HD is the way forward, i want ease of use, all the HVX201 recording format

as which ever i am going to pick up the new e-series P2 cards aswell

ok so thats one for the HPX171

just a thought what about the HPX151 any thoughts just seen it as old stock still new though ?

There is no difference in the image quality between the two cameras: the same chip, the same processor, the same codecs.

But 171 has a lot of interesting features that 201 has not. I can add to the already mentioned:
- waveform and vectorscope
- hd-sdi output
- switchable iris ring

But, first of all, if you use it handhelded there's no comparison.

If you are using a DVX100 yhe 171 is even lighter: I love this camera and I was not happy with 201.

You have to pick a 201 ONLY if you absulutely need the tape

wow thats very usefull

looks like im going for the HPX171 after reading all the info on there

any more advice from any others i will still happily take into considerations aswel
