TLS Morpheus 80-200mm and Aurora 24-70mm conversions?

Hi guys,

I'm looking at moving over to zooms for my work, and am very intrigued by the TLS Aurora and Morpheus Nikon zoom rehousings. 24-70mm and 80-200mm would cover a lot of ground for me in just two lenses (with the added advantage of being Vistavision-ready).

But I can find virtually no feedback on the lenses anywhere online and was wondering if anyone who has used them could share their experiences?

I know they were used to shoot most of the Bourne Ultimatum (but the cuts in that film are literally too quick to judge by), and I heard they also shot parts of Casino Royale and Mr. Turner, so it certainly sounds like they have the right kind of pedigree, but again, I'd really appreciate some first-hand feedback if anyone has any?

I'd also be keen to know which primes sets they cut in well with?

Cheers,

Mark

I own the 80-200. It's quite good. I've noticed that it has softer contrast at T/2.8. It's great at T/4 and at T/5.6 it's as sharp as any lens out there.

Mechanics are top notch. TLS is the place for rehousings. I use it alot with my 2x PL extender and that's when I think it's best to not shoot T/2.8, but stop down a little. Typically when shooting at 160-400mm equivalent with the 2x, we're not inside, so exposure is never an issue. Plus, you really don't want to shoot at 400mm at T/2.8 anyhow. Give the focus puller a chance, haha!

I believe there is a fellow in Australia who shot some great stuff with it at the beach, just can't find it.

Cheers Ryan, yeah Matt Allard ACS shot that beach material and was kind enough to share his thoughts on the glass with me. I contacted TLS directly a couple of times, but didn't hear back from them so ended up taking a deal on the Zeiss Compact Zooms instead. Very happy with the results, I still find it kinda hard to believe that zooms could offer such high image quality, but they do, so I'm delighted.
