Titles....

In currently in upper Daramasala the place where the exiled Tibetan Govt. and Dali Lama reside.

I've done a short 'teaser' for a documentary I'm doing filmed with an HVX and edited with FCP 5 (Studio)on my Powerbook G4.

I'm having huge problems with the placing words over the video insofar as it looks so amateurish i.e. the text seems to stand out from the images like its been added over the top like two separate layers (I'm using the 'add text' widget from FCP)

I've seem many clips in the HVX forum where the titles look really professionally done... I'm assuming that there not using FCP or am I doing something wrong? Should I be using LiveType? (I'm not looking for anything fancy just plain old white text that can fade in and out)

Any advice greatly appreciated! :)
Cheers

What look are you going for? BTW, "Widgets" in OSX have nothing to do with FCP. You mean the Text Generator. There are many things you can do with the Text Generator. Try an off-white (never use pure white for text), be careful of placement on the screen, etc. So what look are you going for? Have you tried various fonts? I use Ariel a lot, with an off white color, works fine for my stuff. LiveType for plain text is overkill.

Just something that looks natural... the tip about the text being off white is a good one (hadn't though of that!). I've seen many clips from the 'HVX Clips' topic and the text just seems so 'natural' as if it was ment to be there.... my text on the other hand seem unnatural as if its been plonked on top of the film.

Yes, Sorry my mind had gone blank as you said I actually ment the Text Generator!

Phew, thanks I fired it up last night and boy did it look kinda 'complicated!

Right, I'm currently wondering around northern India and the electricity to power my Lacie media drive is proving elusive especially with the frequent and zero notice power cuts but I'll give your advice a try tonight !

Many thanks for the reply!

Not using pure white makes a huge difference in ridding the text of that Home Video text look. Somewhere between white and grey will make a difference.

I put a gaussian blur filter set to 1 on the text and opaque it down to 90 or so. Looks less digitized....more blended.
