Titles behind objects

Hey, I'm trying to figure out how to make a title that appears behind an object...I have a sample from the Las Vegas show....It's all the way at the end....When the Las Vegas title appears behind the object...

I don't know if they overlay the object or what...This example isn't the best but it's the only one I could really think of....Help me out if you can...Thanks!

Oh and you guys can find better examples I'd love to see them....:dankk2:

greenscreen elements if shot that way, or rotoscope. That's it. Either layered graphics or roto'd masks (or amttes if you want to call'em that)

i didn't watch but I think i know what you are talking about. I don't use after effects but in vegas I just roto out the foreground object and then put my text behind it and then the rest of the background or whatever behind that. i am sure after effects can do this...

Yeah, Bennis pretty much said it. In AE, place your text layer over your footage. Place a mask on your footage and roto' according to the movement of the "cover" object. Good luck!

Couldn't you just, as in the youtube, crop out everything around the tower, and sandwich the text between the full shot(background) and the cropped foreground?

Okay that makes sense....But when I use roto' for the object while highlighted on the footage layer, it just works as a mask....But if I highlight the text layer and then roto the object it seems to work....But for a rather stationary shot when the text moves the mask moves....So I guess what I'm asking is do you apply the mask while highlighting the footage layer or while highlighting the text layer?

Real simple. Take your footage layer and duplicate it, so that you have 2 identical footage layers on top of each other. Apply the mask(s) to the top layer of the duplicated footage, thus isolating the objects on the layer that you want the text to appear behind. If need be, animate the masks, etc. Then sandwich your text layer between the 2 video layers and voila, the text should appear/move behind the objects you masked out on the top video layer.

Not sure if that answered your question (this stuff is easier to explain if you can actually see the problem) but hope it helps.
