Tips to help speed rendering

Hi
Invested in the latest iMac this past summer (27" 3.4GHz Intel Core i7 with 16GB RAM) thinking it would provide me with plenty of power and speed for editing and rendering. Can't say I'm happy with the performance overall. For one thing the graphics card does not support the Mercury playback engine and pretty sure I have no options to upgrade. Can anyone recommend any performance tips to help speed up rendering?

Rendering on any platform/software is dependent upon the render settings. For final renders, if it's slow, it's slow. It's something you have to deal with. I render out sections in lower resolutions and w/o color corrections to see how it looks, but I turn everything up for the final render.
Other than that, basic stuff like defragging, allocating more resources to your editing software and so-on might help.
