Tips on upgrading to a Mac Pro & FCS2... .

I've done a lot of heavy FCP 4.0 editing on my 17" Powerbook, and am upgrading to a MAC PRO and FC STUDIO 2.

Budget is around $6000. Usage will be for my growing professional work (commercials, web series/training videos, weddings).

I'm undecided on a QUAD-CORE. Is the 8-CORE worth the extra $800?

I will be doing animation & a lot of MOTION. Graphics Card: 4x NVIDIA GeForce GT or ATI Radeon HD 4870?

Really appreciate any suggestions/feedback from the people who use these daily. Trying to wisely use all the money I'm spending. Thanks.
 
I'd go 8-Core. That should buy you more time before it inevitably needs to be updated to a newer machine years from now. There's no such thing as too much power.

In general ATI is more speedy on Motion than NVIDIA.
