Tips on editing configuration for 24pa

Hello,
I have very little experience editing. I have an old capture card that came with the Pinnacle Studio 7 AV/DV Package (DV500?) and have used Adobe Premiere 6.0 for all previous projects. The card has AV and firewire inputs. REcently I bought a DVX100a and shot a project with 24p(advanced) in letterbox mode (cuts top and bottom off with black bars) with scene file set at F1. I watched the raw footage from the DV tapes on several different televisions (size and type) and the footage looks incredible. I would like some tips on capturing and editing (hardware and software) to minimize degradation. Some specific questions:

1) First of all Id like to ask if anyone knows which programs that handle 24pa are compatible with my video card. (or if that should even be a concern)

2) I shot in letterbox mode which simply cuts the top and bottom off of the frame. Do I need to capture the footage in specific setting? My final output would preferably be for a 4:3 television presentation.

Any help on good websites or books to start with would be great. "The DVX Book" that came with my camera didn't prove to useful in the editing department.
thanks

Woops:

I realize that Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 is designed for 24pa but Im wondering if thats the best route to go for the type of card I have. Im not quite sure how much of a role the capture card plays in this scheme. Thats my main concern.

First - Do you have ver. 6 or Pro1.5? Ver 6 doesn't support 24p. or pa.
Second - the capture card doesn't have "much" to do with it. Any firewire input will capture the footage.
Third - You mentioned that you shot with Scene File set to 1. So I guess you went into the menu and manually changed the setting from 60i to 24pa? You could have went to Scene File 6 and shot in 24PA without changing scenefile settings.

I have the same question about letterbox mode on the DVX.

Should letterbox mode be output as a 4:3 or 16:9 setting?

I am assuming 4:3, but remain uncertain whether that's correct.

I'll have to give that a try. I've only ever shot 4:3 or Squeeze mode, never letterbox.
Just a guess but I'd say import it into a 16:9 timeline and zoom in or out to lose the letterbox bars at top & bottom.
I may experiment with this tonight.

I am buying Premiere Pro 1.5 for use with my dvx100a. I have NO experience editing and I was wondering if anyone can help with what kind of plug-ins or whatever I need that are compatible with the camera
