Tips for editing on an ultrabook with a mobile Core i7?

I travel a lot and all I've got is an lightweight and old Asus UX32VD with a mobile Core-i7 3517U. It's got 10GB of RAM and an internal 512GB SSD. I have an external 256GB USB 3.0 SSD. nVidia 620M graphics card.

I know it's not a powerhouse by any stretch but I was wondering what your recommendations would be to maximize performance given my limitations.

- How should I partition my internal 512GB SSD and what should I be storing on these partitions?
- What should I store on the USB 3.0 SSD?
- I use Premiere. I can barely do 5 seconds of preview playback before it becomes a stuttering mess. I'm trying to edit the files coming straight out of the camera though. Should I first convert the files to an uncompressed Cineform file?

If you have a recent version of Premiere Pro CC, try the proxy workflow:

Or have you tried that and not been happy with the results/time?

Whoa, that's pretty cool. I'll have to check that out.

Are there also services for uploading your original video files and editing via remote control / streaming on a more powerful internet machine?

Back to the original topic, I'm especially interested in how I should be managing my internal and external SSDs and partitions. Where should my original files go, where do the proxies go, where does the swap file go, where should my NLE software be installed etc?
