I just purchased a Gldecam 2000 an would like to know what is a good set of weights to start with (what size and how many). I am using a DVX100A with battery and tape installed (No suprise there).
Thanks

i have the 4000 not sure how much difference there is between the 2 but i use 2 weights on each bolt and have them just upto the front of the slot and the center post down about 6 inches hope this helps...Paul

If my battery from Jarred ever shows up I will let you know. But I have three on my 4000 right now, and it is balanced for a tiny consumer cam.

Thanks for the information. I was told by the folks at EVS to simply buy weights at a sporting goods store. Any suggestion on the size of the plates? (Ounces I imagine.)

Make sure when you are weighting it that your lcd is open, or else the side-to-side balance will be off. Also as far as weight, it depends on how long or short you telescope the bar. One dvxuser likes it shorter so he can get lower to the ground. I like it lighter, so I telescope the bar a bit longer. The dvx is heavy enough as it is, so I try to keep it as light as possible. The best thing to do it experiment. Have fun!

My post was a bit late, but didn't the glidecam come with weights? Mine had more then I'd ever use!

i to had a lot of weights left over thank god you dont need them all you would never get it of the ground !

If you do not have weights, I assume you bought it used?? If I needed more weights, I would probably just go to a real hardware store (not home depot) and get some giant washers. But you really shouldn't need too many. I can't picture what a sporting goods store would have that would be useful.

more specifically, make sure your camera is completely setup for the shoot and then balance. that includes lcd flip-out, battery (the one you will shoot with, not some other one), matte box, etc. whatever else you are gonna put on that thing. That is what you have to balance.

Hope that helps - I figured out the battery part the hard way :)

Beaker, make sure you also follow the instructions on how to set up the extension arm of the 2000, it has to swing down in such a way that it doesn't swing past a certain point. That is also critical for balancing.
