Tips for a Concierge?

Usually I stay in Super8s or only slightly better. This week the government rate got us into swank heaven in downtown Seattle.

Any thoughts on tipping a concierge who gives you a great hit on dinner?

What's the general rule for going to the concierge... my worldly friends??

My sister works at a bank and can get $2 bills. She tips everyone with them. Makes people remember you when you hand them a $2 bill.
I'd say at least $2 bucks but not more than $5. It's not like he went out and researched that restaurant just for you. It's the same one he recommended to the last 25 people that asked the same question.

Good point...

My friend I was with suggested we tip and I couldn't come up with a good reason why not to. He said we'll tip the wait staff... why not the concierge.

Thanks, Dog.

The $2 bill is an excellent idea. Somehow or another, I've managed to get into a number of swanky hotels over the last year riding on the tails of some guys who really do big time productions and the tipping and little fees for everything really breaks the bank, even if your room is free (to you).

For example, Hilton Americas in Houston charged me Ten bucks to pickup my FedEx delivery (Laptop and a DAT player for digitizing tapes)... PER box. And, please make sure to bring your own CD-R's if you intend needing one. The in-room ones in the cabinet are $6 each. Ya know, there are reasons the Hiltons are wealthy. The funniest part was valet parking my ten year old Acura at a $400/nite hotel. That was downright hilarious! That week rocked!

Concierge is definitely your friend. If you ask where is the mall? Definitely tip them... When you do, they'll tell you if they're open or not before walking six blocks in downtown Houston on a Friday night only to find it it's closed after 6pm... Yes, we tipped her $5 and avoided the trip. :)
