Tip for HUCO gearbox users

I built a Follow focus using the Huco gearbox, the one with the nylon non metal gears. Yeah it has tons of slack/play and it was awsome for pulling but you couldn't mark the discs and expect to get back to the same point with a change in direction.

Anyway i took it apart and put it in a vice and pushed the aluminum sleeve into the gearbox i did about 1/2 (half) a mm on each side until i could feel that all the slack was gone. it feels slightly rougher to turn but not at all bad. and i'm sure it wont affect the performance. Not sure how long this will hold for and if i'll find any problems down the line, but just putting this out there...

If my explanation is bad and somebody needs a picture please shout and i'll take one.

Hi Attic6,
Can you please post some pictures of your DIY HUCO follow focus?
After you have performed that "modification", is there any give/slack/play now?

Which HUCO would recommend that I get? Steel or Plastic?

Is there are better and cheaper alternative to these HUCOs?

I need a very cheap FF solution. So I guess it's either spending £40-50 and taking a chance with building a DIY HUCO, which might turn out to be as good as a replica of Redrock FF, or, otherwise I'll have to purchase RJ or FOTGA (for £75) and put up with their low quality, cause I can't afford anything more expensive that this on FF.

Thanks in advance

Yes i'm interested to see some pictures, i have one diy follow focus with huco gearbox.

Just look closely where the vernier is touching and squash in by about 0.5mm on each side of the aluminum bit for both sides of the gear box. do it gently and test between each squash.
Hope this helps.
