Timewarp with Pixel Motion Artifacts is an "Artifactory"

Was retiming some clips and using TimeWarp in AE. It was about just messing around with strange colors and wanted to slow down this footage of a fire dancer a lot.

There was some weird movements that happened when the fireballs entered and left the frames that made the Pixelmotion estimate in distorted ways, it looks really cool.

Here is a few screenshots as a preview, will put up a video in a few days or a week or so.

I have experienced this many times as well. It always happens when there is particularly fast motion and a significant change/difference from one frame to the next. It seems like AE in an attempt to make the new frames does exactly as you have posted.

I've had some luck creating a duplicate of the odd frame and masking out the areas I want to keep. I've also had luck slowing down the footage by incraments of 50% and rendering out each. That way AE only has to create one additional frame. The warping is still there to a degree, but is not as pronounced.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Matt,

Yes, I tried that and even slowed it down to various fragments of time and then laid down the layers with various opacities to blend the artifacts.

but mostly on this project I also went the other way and started using the warps as a cool look.

Almost done, rendering the titles at the moment.

i also uploaded it both to vimeo and to youtube to see if the new YouTube HD quality was comparable, I think it is surprisingly good, considering how bad youtube used to be, and if you know the embed trick i link to in the post you do not need a special account like on vimeo to embed videos is HD

Kick ass! I was hoping you would post.

What tag do you put at the end of a link for HD youtube please??? I don't understand what you mean!

thanks guys and you are welcome matt - it was time consuming and a lot of late nights during the holidays - but a lot of fun to complete
