timeline question.

Does anyone know how to lock the audio/video timeline in 4.0e. I have some clips that are done and wanted to lock them like in premiere to prevent any changes like when you move clips around.
Also how do you lock the audio and video together to move as one or do you just have to select them both and move then. Sorry for the questions but I am an old premiere user that just switched to vegas.
p.s. I just ordered 5.0 dvd bundle today. should be here in 2-3 days. Can't wait. I really like vegas Just learning the differences from working with another editing system for so long things are different. Overall, Vegas is the best. Great features. Hope there dvd app is better than 1.0. 1.0 seemed pretty basic compared to adobe encore.
thanks

Re: timeline question.

I don't know about how to move blocks of clips around, other than to use the select-a-group tool and move them, but that doesn't permanently lock them together.

Locking audio to video is done by selecting both clips and choosing "group", which the keyboard shortcut is 'G' to lock 'em and 'U' to unlock 'em.

Re: timeline question.

but what about locking the clips to the timeline so they won't move even if you drag a longer clip in front of them?

Re: timeline question.

Well, I don't know how to lock a whole track at a time, but you can easily lock individual items in the timeline by right clicking and selecting Switches->Lock. You'd have to do this for each item in the timeline.

Also, the audio and video should be locked together by default, if not then you probably have "Ignore Event Grouping" on, just turn this off to have them move at the same time. If for whatever reason they no longer move together, do what Barry says about regrouping them.

And if you want to stop the automatic shifting that happens when you add something in front of an item, just turn auto-ripple off.

Hope this helps.

Re: timeline question.

shift click the first clip on the timeline then the shiftclick the last clip on the timeline, this will select all clips on the timeline then right click, switches, and lock. theres probally an easier way, but thats how i do it. Basically the same as SirAllen.
