Timeline problem?

For some reason my footage is coming out choppy in some parts and with just large chunks of artifacts...I thought maybe it was just the software having a little trouble and once I output it to a better format it would be ok...But it comes out looking the same. What the hell is going on? I'm beginning to think there's something wrong with my camera. But, when viewed through the camera's LCD, everything appears to be ok. Someone just suggested it could be the way I'm importing the footage into the timeline...

I own a Z1U and I've tried premiere 2.0 and Vegas 6. I have no idea what to try.

Thanks in advance.

Could it be your computer is having trouble handling the HD footage? I've never messed with the Z1 so I don't know what's required to edit it.

Maybe you could upload a short clip to stickypod and I could drop it in a timeline and see if I can replicate the problem.

I have an FX1 and PPro edits the HDV just fine. Dispite the claims of all NLE developers editing HDV is not like editing DV even though its 25mb's per second.

If you edit HDV [25mb] natively in PPro2 you must have a very fast computer 3.4Ghz HT P4 or dual core processor, if you edit with an intermediate codec like Cineform you have to have both a fast processor and fast I/O because AspectHD converts the 25mb HDV stream to approximately a 100mb HD stream similar to DVCProHD.

I edit with AspectHD and have a single 3.4GHz HT P4 with 2GB RAM, an FX540 graphics card that provides 1920x1080 component out, and 500GB SATA RAID0 and generally get four streams of realtime HD.

If you want to edit HDV from your Z1 you'll need to do a little reading regarding system requirements and how to configure your system. Although its not as easy as editing DV it is quite easy to do, there's just more you have to know.
