timeline help

is there a preference to make the playhead not snap into edits when it is dragged about 15 frames away from one? i know mine did it ever since i got final cut pro, then for a few days it stopped, then just today it started up again.

Which version are you using? v5 is the N key (I guess for 'napping)... v6... well... they changed it in that version. I don't have it so I'm not sure how to turn it off - but lots of folks are complaining about it.

If you go to tools, button list, a menu comes up for dragging new buttons into the upper right hand corner of your timeline box. Under editing is a button for snapping. Drag it into the upper right hand corner of your timeline. It will always be there now and you can toggle snapping on and off. You can also go to keyboard layout and map a key for snapping.
