Timelapse pan in fcp: hd to sd?

I am doing a dvcpro50 sd project that will include some timelapse and stop motion. I would like to have the ability to pan and scale slowly and smoothly in this, so is it possible to bring 720 or 1080 material into a sd timeline? -That would allow me to 'pan' and so forth in fcp by moving the footage.
But is it possible, and how, via motion jpegs or what??:dankk2:

It is possible, but you'll have to render stuff if you use footage of different frame rates, or if you're hardware is too limited.

Why not zoom/pan in a native DVCPRO-HD timeline? Cause once you drop that HD footage into an SD timeline, it's SD resolution, period, defeats the purpose.

Just do it in the native DVCPRO timeline. Or just do it in theh DVCPRO-50 timeline. It should be fine.

If I understand you correctly, you want to pan and scan a 1920x1080 image using a 720x480 window (SD output)?

If so I do this all the time, but in AE7 not FCP. I know everyone says this is easy to do but HD is upper field first and SD is lower field first and when you combine the two and add panning and scanning the results have never been as good as I would like in any NLE so I combine the elements in AE7.

I second that - renders required, but will give good results. Consider using Motion to rough comp it out as well.
