Timelapse - How?

Ok, this will probably seem like a dumb question, but I have no idea how to do a timelapse shot. I'm using a DVX100. I want to film a sunrise and a moon moving through the sky (separately, of course), so I'll probably just need to record about two hours for each of them. Is this even possible with this camera, and if so, how do I do it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can use a program called

istopmotion
www.boinx.com

essentially you use your camera (can also be a digital still camera) firewired into your laptop or any computer. Lock the shot down, tell the program take a shot every +or- 30 sec., lay into a sequence and voila!

basically a stop animation program

Also, if you are recording direct to a laptop - you can just record straight to disk for a couple of hours (provided you have about 20GB free space) and speed it up in post - it'll give you smoother motion :)

Of course you can have the sun and the moon rising at the same time too. With a lil bezier masking within Vegas. LOL. But seriously arent there some still cameras which can be set to click shots every x secs. Because the laptop solution might be ok. But what if its an environment where you cant wire up a lot of stuff and leave them in the open ? Sometimes you can maybe shoot a sunrise through a glass window. Sometimes you might need to do it from a car dashboard. Try a digital cam that has a time prog muti shot. Its a better investment. I think.
