First of all... If you don't know what the Milapse Head is: check this out - an inexpensive way to get 2-axis motion control for timelapse.

The free and open-source timeismotion software (released at openmoco.org) will allow you to get controlled gentle starts and stops to your time-lapse and real-time pans. There is nothing close to it at this price level as far as I know....

Here's the intro and 'what you need' video

Here's the 'how to' video on the software

Here's an example using the head/software (after the opening shot)

Enjoy and pass the link on. The only thing I ask is that you give some credit when you use it to blow peeps minds and spread some love back my way...

Jay from MILapse is awesome! Those guys even made the time lapse software completely free! Technically, with this software, you don't have to buy an expensive fluid head tripod for smooth natural pans and tilts anymore! Just get a motorized telescope mount like the one I bought, the Coronado DSM ($229), attach your DSLR camera or video camcorder (mine is the HPX170) to the L-Bracket, and hook the controller (#497 Autostar, comes with the Coronado DSM) up to your laptop and use the software to program the speed, ramp-up, ramp-down, and length of your pan or tilt and let the motorized mount do the rest! Computer controlled time lapse and real-time pans/tilts for everyone!!! If you're reading this, Jay... you rock!
