I have footage that is being transferred to digital so I can edit the film in Vegas. The issue I have is that there is a timecode stamp on the footage. Is there a way to letterbox the footage to hide the timecode? I'm on Vegas Pro 12 - thanks
 
Is the time code on top of the picture area, or in an empty spot above/below? Hopefully the latter, in which case you can simply use a standard Crop to hide it (you can do this at track level to avoid repeating it for every event on that track). Sure, you can do the same if the time code is on top of the footage too, but by definition anything in that screen area will be 'lost' from output.

Be warned, depending on the resolution of the input footage, you may end up with lower effective input footage resolution than your required output, which can result in soft-looking detail as you're effectively in digital zoom.
 
Haven't seen the footage yet. The person transferring the footage emailed me saying there was a time-code stamp on it.
 
That's a worry - possibly it has the time code plastered right over the footage and they're assuming you can magically edit it out :( But no sense panicking until you've seen it...
 
I have no idea why they would do that to you if you're expected to edit the footage.
The only reason I have ever put timecode on footage is when I'm giving it to someone for clip selection purposes.

If it's being digitised especially for you to edit, then yes, hopefully whoever's doing that actually understands how to add a time code without clobbering the footage. But stranger things have happened, especially with archive footage sources :(
