time to Dump my computer...amd athlon upgrade

I've been fighting through crashes, shut downs, slow render times etc. for way too long and think its about time to upgrade.

I'm looking at getting a dual core AMD Athlon, since money is tight I just need something that will allow me to finish off my film because my current AMD Athlon 3000 2.16ghz with 2GB Ram is not cutting it......there is 50 hours of video footage in my project and its to the point where trying to COPY a clip Causes a SHUT DOWN.

Any suggestions on a dual core from AMD on the cheap, that will significanly increase the performance while editing and decrease render times etc....?

Thanks,

P

I'm using an AMD 64 3400 2.41 GHZ with 1.5 RAM and have had no problems. I have 200g HD and backup all my active footage to external as the HD fills up it can slow down a little. I always keep my HD relatively empty so the system can process the files without slowing down. Your HD capacity may be way too full. Try backing it up to an external and only import the necessary footage as your cutting it(thats what works 4 me). As far as core 2 duo is concerned , most systems are fairly reliable. HD space, graphics and processor speed is definately what to look for. If your getting a new system, try to get e-sata external connection for external drives its the same transfer speed as internal drives and will not slow you down.
Good luck
Steve
