Time Remap

What is the best way to do the time remap effect? I know how to use the time remap tool but for some reason my end result is not what I wanted it too look like. I want it to look like it does on the CBS show SURVIVOR. What I get is an effect that looks like something on Mtv's Cribs or Pimp My Ride. Don't get me wrong the effect is still cool but instead of starting with a normal speed clip then speed up to a faster speed then back to a normal speed all in one clip. I get all of that but then I get the red tick marks which throws it in reverse then back forward again! Like I said it is cool effect for what it is. But how do I do the effect without it going in reverse?

I have been playing with the tool based on the tick marks only. I try to bunch up the marks closer together to make the clip speed up then make sure the tick marks are spaced out to slow it back to normal. Is there another way I should go about doing this?

Re: Time Remap

Set it to constant speed 100% and check the time remap timeline.
Set to Variable and take the far right key on the graph and move it to the left as much time as you want the end result to take. Since you're speeding up the center section it will take less time overall.
Control-Click to set keys to smooth if they're linear.
You should have a sideways S curve. Horizontal at start and end but angled in the middle. You can move the control points to change the overall angle and location. The steeper the angle the faster the mid section.
If there is a long amount of normal speed before and after you want to isolate the time remap section as a cut clip.
