hey there, im new to this forum and pretty new in the wholse film business and i have a question.

not sure where to post this exactly but how would i film a sort of time lapse shot where one part of the frame is moving fast and another section is moving in real time?

thanks
kyle

depends on like what the breaking point is. If I knew more I would probably be able to help more. If its simple you can use a garbage matte.

Not sure if you are using Final Cut or not, but this article from Ken Stone's site might help. You will need to do something like what is described in this article if the time lapse is longer that say 30 minutes or so real time.

Otherwise you should be able to speed up the clip enough to show the passing of time in FCP or Premier. You would probably be best off using Shake or AE to composite the two clips together (the fast one and the slow one).

Maybe you could post more details as to what you are trying to do and I could help more.

hey thanks for the info so far and i appologize for not being clearer.

what i want to achieve is a person walking down the right side of the frame on a subway terminal in real time, while the subway and everyone to the left of him are moving quickly

You're going to have to shoot the time lapse, then shoot the person walking and mask them together. Or, if he has to walk in front of the train or something more complicated, you'll have to rotoscope it.

What camera are you using? What NLE? Give us some info, we'll help
