Time Lapse Sequences

Can anyone give any insight on what is involved in making some sequences like these? Not even the panning (which is awesome) but just the lapsing part. I'm very interested in including these types of shots in my films.

Especially at 0:18, that's incredible.

well depends what your shooting with. You can go into your camera and change the FPS (frames per second). Or you can also achieve this in editing. However, I like doing it from in the camera and then just touching it up in editing.

Thanks Tim for asking about this, I saw that timelapse a while ago and haven't been able to find it since. I especially like the last clip where the planes are circling the airport.

Those images were shot with a still camera. You can do some intervalometer with an HVX, but to get that streaky, blurry look, you will have to do a long shutter exposure. It's really easy with Canon cameras, both with the CHDK, and with free USB software from Canon.
