Time Code Won't Display

Robbie Comeau

Como's back. back again
Hey guys

I'm using Premiere 5.5 editing 5K RED footage.

I need to burn in timecode to send out for sound - but when I apply a timecode effect to a clip, there aren't any numbers or text displaying on the video. I've tried bringing up the opacity, and dragging the position, and I know this won't fix it, but I tried anyway and nothing seemed to happen.

Are there settings I'm missing to display timecode?

Is there an option in the export settings?

Thanks,
Rob

Are you running PrPro 5.5 on OS X Lion by any chance? There was a bug where the timecode plugin didn't render the overlay on Lion. It was fixed in the 5.5.2 update.

Thanks - I fixed it. But now problem number two:

Once I export the movie, I view it in quicktime. I go frame by frame at the beginning of the 13 minute film, and the timecode that was burned in, matches the timecode in quicktime. I scrub thru the film, and the timecode gets out of sync.

It goes a couple frames ahead, and the more I get into the film, it starts to get 10-18 frames out of sync.

I'm exporting is low quality for my sound designer, exporting at 24fps.

In the effects for the time code, the settings are:

format: smpte
tc source: generate
time display: 24
offset: 0
label text: automatic.

Thanks,
Rob
