Timcode recorder vis-a-vis DVX-100A?

Hello everyone,

I'm tying to get to the bottom of this issue: Can a timecode recorder be used to "sync" sound to digital picture using a DVX-100A camcorder? I'm considering buying a Sound Device 744T timecode hard-disk recorder. Does anyone know if I'll be able to take advantage of the timecode feature to "sync" sound to picture? I ask, because I don't think the DVX will send timecode to slave the recorder. And I doubt the DVX will slave to external timecode. Obviously, I'm talking about a dual system audio recording setup here. Or are we limited to slapping a slate to sync to picture in post? Thanks.

Why ask this twice ?:-)
hook the link to your camera and send the tc ( wierless or not to audio channel) , if you are not running 2 hourse takes youll never know about the drift :-)
you can use ambient synk box and place it on the camera , jam it from your recorder and work in freerun tc on audio channel
then in the post syncronize the files automaticly

Oleg,

Thank you. I asked twice (first time at CAS) because I guess I'm a slow learner! I just didn't understand how this would work. If I'm getting this correct, I would use the SD 744T as the Master time code generator and send SMPTE to one audio channel on the DVX. In post, I would then be able to read the time code from that DVX channel and then align it with the identical time code from the audio tracks recorded on the 744T once they've been imported into my NLE. Is this correct? If so, I agree this would take care of it. Oleg, THANK YOU for not giving up on me!
