Tiffen DFX filter plugin

Hey everyone, I was set to buy a set of Tiffen Pro Mist filters until I saw a plugin was available for Final Cut Pro. Anyone have luck with the Tiffen DFX plugin? Would an actual set of physical 35mm filters produce a more natural look than one added in post? Thank you all in advance!

I would say if you can shoot with the filter, a filter like that, then thats your best bet. Realize that most cameras sample the video information at higher quality then they record it. What are you going to shoot on? In DVCProHD, you would be adding a DFX filter to (on an HPX/HVX) 720/1080p 8bit 4:2:2 footage, while using a real one in front of the camera lens would be sampled at (on an HPX/HVX) at 1080p, 14bit, etc etc... Numbers aside, if you can use an optical filter, I'd wager to say it will look better than a digital filter.

i saw a demo of the tiffen plugs at a trade show recently. i was blown away. they are rediculously cool. keep this in mind though. some optical filters that control light can never be duplicated in post. for instance, a ND grad filter can help you keep your sky from blowing out when shooting in bright daylight. however, the plug in will not recover a blown sky. same goes for a polarizer. can't replicate a pola perfectly in post. but other filters like tints, pro mist, stars, etc. are great in post.
