Three FCP questions.

These questions may seem stupid, but I've never used FCP before...

1. Can you tweak the colours? (make it darker, maybe more red?)

2. Can you tweak the colours of CERTAIN areas- say you wanted to leavethe ground and actors normal colours, but may the sky... erm.... pink for example?

3. Make it look like it's raining... I've heard that some programs have these feature.. if so, wouldn't the rain look unrealistic?

Okay, thank you!!!

1) Effects / Video Filters / Color Correction / Color Corrector 3-way. Use the mids slider to darken. Adjust the mids and highlights color wheels towards red.

2) Same filter or grad filter. WIth the color corrector you could potentially matte out the sky and add pink to the matte selection. You could add a pink graduated filter or you could make a pink grad inside of photoshop, import it to FCP and use a blend mode.

3) My experience is that rain usually looks unrealistic unless you are really good with CG. In fact, it is very hard to shoot rain without proper back lighting and 'extra-large drops' like those produced by a Hollywood rain maker. Inside FCP you can change the color temperature to look more cold and wet using the Color Corrector 3-way. Motion comes with some 'rain' simulations...

selective cc, creating mattes, and making it rain are all possible and work better in after effects. making rain look realistic is fairly easy. the thing that ruins the shot is showing the ground if it's dry and closeups of dry objects. other than that it looks pretty real.

here's rain via after effects and a plug called particular. this shot has dry ground but the sidewalk is very dirty so it almost works.
